 I have been playing piano for 15 years. I am currently working
on my A.R.C.T pieces for enjoyment. I have been teaching piano for the
last 9 years privately and as a teacher for numerous music studios. I have
a competitive spirit which led me to win a number of music festivals such as the
Lions Festival in Newmarket and the Kiwanis Festival in Toronto. I have
majored in music at York University for 4 years where I focused primarily on
solo and ensemble performances and conducting. I have taken time off to
prepare for the opening of my own music studio in the very near future.
Many
teachers have 25-40 years musical experience, yet they do not have an effective
method of teaching. In order to be an effective teacher, I feel that you MUST be able
to adapt to each students specific needs and use several different techniques to
help them.
I believe my teaching technique incorporates this idea. The right piano
teacher is not the one who can wave his/her certificates around. The right
piano teacher is the one who's knows how to express his/her knowledge to each
individual student.
I hold 2 recitals per year. One at the beginner of summer and one just
before Christmas. This allows my students the opportunity to perform in
front of their family, friends and other students. I believe performing is
as fundamental a skill as practicing or learning theory. It plays a huge
role in building their self confidence. This almost always carries over
into their school work and other parts of their life.
